At first protesting his Innocence, De Foe eventually broke down and confessed. It all began so quickly, he told police. George and Kathy Lutz, a young, Married couple from Deer Park, Long Island, were occupied house-hunting. George was employed as a land surveyor, and earned a decent income. Recently, however, business had dropped off sharply, putting him in a financial squeeze. Of the 70 homes he and his wife had scrutinized, the De Feo house about the only one they found they could manage. Undaunted by its tragic history, high taxes and heating expenses, they bought it, and proceeded with their three kids.
The Lutzes had purchased the house among most extreme haunted houses in Ohio, half of which was held in escrow by the title company due to a legal complication tied to the De Feo property. Sporting six bedrooms, 3-1/2 baths, an enclosed porch, and a fitting boathouse and garage, it was at the Lutzes’ words a dream comes true. That dream, as much of the entire world knows, was rudely shattered when, 28 days later, the Lutzes fled their house, announcing it was infested with demonic forces.
Newspapers like Newsday and The now defunct Long Island Press splashed policy on the story, reporting that De Feo’s defence attorney, William Weber, was introduced into the Lutzes in January by mutual friends and was currently supplying them legal advice.
The Lutzes, Weber said, had expressed concern over strange sounds, windows and doors that opened strangely, inexplicable changes in room temperature, and sudden personality changes from pleasantness to anger, in the Amityville house. Depending on the Lutzes’ paranormal Complaints, and providing an early whiff of foul play, Weber announced he was seeking a new trial where he planned to argue that Ronald De Feo was suborned into murdering his loved ones through demonic possession.
This is not a new idea but it is kind of radical in that you do not find many haunts which are open enough to try it, many have you huddled up moving through a maze of halls and rooms. How about a free roaming haunt where they just need to find their way through on their own with all kinds of animals just drifting around. We believe this could be a really terrific experience and something which goes over hugely well because not only does it cause some panic but it is something radically different from what most people have experienced at haunts before so will frighten them just as they do not have any clue what’s happening.
